Targeting motion control applications in consumer electronics, VTI Technologies announces at Electronica 2010 in Munich the world's smallest digital output 3-axis angular rate sensor with the lowest power consumption, the CMR3000
VANTAA, Finland -- (BUSINESS WIRE) --
The CMR3000 utilises a shared sensing mass and coupled resonator structure in orthogonal multi-mode operation. This eliminates cross talk between axes and requires only one drive loop. Patented simplified low current consuming phase-shift readout electronics and wafer level quadrature signal design enable excellent stability in real life environments.
Lowest current consumption
The CMR3000 boasts the market's lowest current consumption of 5 mA and is enhanced with a power save feature. In duty cycled operation, further current consumption reductions of tens of percent can be achieved. This can almost double the battery life in a portable device, such as a remote controller, significantly improving the user experience.
"The 3-axis gyro enabled motion controlled product market is booming. The CMR3000's lowest current consumption, excellent sensitivity stability and small size will help our customers to bring their products within that huge market," says Mr. Pekka Kostiainen, Product Manager at VTI.
The CMR3000 is optimised for user interface and gaming applications. Due to gaming requirements the measurement range is +/- 2000 dps with selectable measurement bandwidths. For cell phones the wafer level package enabled smallest size of 3.1x4.2x0.8 mm3 with digital SPI and I2C interfaces is a clear benefit. "Doubling the battery life time of motion controlled remotes also offers a huge advantage," adds Mr. Kostiainen.
CMR3000 has been sampled among selected customers since summer 2010. Volume production and availability to all customers will begin in the first quarter of 2011.
Gyro only low cost wireless pointer
A VTI customer is developing a wireless pointing device based on the CMR3000 and a low cost 8051 microcontroller. Early prototypes will be available for demonstration at the Electronica fair from 9-12 November 2010 in Hall A2, VTI Booth 428.
