Gemalto Personal Identity Verification credential wins highest recognition
ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Gemalto, the world leader in digital security, received an honor at the Government Security News Homeland Security Awards gala in Washington DC. The company's government-certified Personal Identity Verification credential won the Best Smart Card Solution award.
This Gemalto identity credential allows government agencies to link existing proximity-based physical access control systems and new FIPS 201-compliant systems. As of 2009, Gemalto had provided over 25 million microprocessor-based secure personal devices to the federal government.
In addition, Gemalto's secure Coesys Enrolment Solution for U.S. Identity Projects was nominated as finalist in the Biometric solutions category. The Coesys Enrolment solution brings the highest levels of trust by verifying enrollees and their identity-vetting documentation, accurately recording citizens' personal data and biometrics during enrollment. Coesys Enrolment maintains the highest levels of privacy and data security before, during and after the enrollment process. Once an application is approved, Coesys Enrolment encrypts, signs, transfers and then erases all of the local data.
"We are thankful of the close relationship and trust we share with our government customers," said Neville Pattinson, senior vice president, Government Affairs, Gemalto North America. "We are honored of this illustrious recognition and to have provided advanced smart card technology to the U.S. government for many years now, including the flagship Common Access Cards and the U.S. electronic passport program. It is especially gratifying that the Homeland Security Awards judges see our latest innovations in secure electronic identity as further contributing to the security of the country."
