New 3-Megapixel AR0330 Image Sensor with Advanced 2.2-Micron Pixel Delivers All HD Video Modes and Excellent Low-light Performance
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Aptina, a leading innovator of CMOS imaging technology, today introduced its new 1/3-inch native full high-definition (HD) 1080p60 video sensor with support for electronic image stabilization (EIS). The sensor can support all HD video modes (1080p60, 1080p30 and 720p60) without losing field of view, a tremendous benefit for consumer pocket digital video (DV), camcorder, web, sports action and video conferencing camera applications.
Leveraging a new 2.2-micron pixel design and innovative AptinaTM A-PixTM pixel technology, the new feature-rich AR0330 solution delivers smooth full HD video capture at 60fps, excellent low-light performance, and stunning overall color and video quality. With its 3x3 on-sensor binning mode, the AR0330 also supports WVGA with high-speed capture options at 120fps and 240fps, permitting innovative slow-motion video features. In addition to high-end digital video performance, the AR0330 makes it possible to capture a 3.2MP still image due to its unique multi-aspect ratio format.
The AR0330 enables camera designs with a low-cost bill of materials and low power consumption requirements. It also supports multiple serial interface options, including four-lane HiSPiTM and four-lane MIPI®, giving camera designers more flexibility with image processing solutions.
"With our new AR0330 1080p60 sensor, we are addressing the growing demand for high-end HD-quality digital video cameras at consumer price points," said Sandor Barna, Vice President and General Manager of Aptina's consumer camera business unit. "We are thrilled by early responses from our customers, which we feel, confirm our belief that this is the best 2.2-micron pixel sensor they have ever seen."
The AR0330 is offered in a ceramic LCC package (11.43mm x 11.43mm), and a new small form factor CSP package design (6.28mm x 6.65mm), allowing for the development of ultra compact digital video cameras. The AR0330 is also available in bare die for module integrators.
Availability
The Aptina AR0330 is currently sampling with mass production expected in Q2 CY2011.
About Aptina A-PixTM Technology
Aptina A-Pix is a series of advanced pixel technologies, featuring lightguide, deep photodiode, and 65 nm pixel design rules that cost-effectively advance pixel performance. Aptina A-Pix enhances quantum efficiency and minimizes crosstalk to capture sharp images with vibrant colors even in the low-light conditions that challenge traditional sensors. The technology makes it possible for mobile phone cameras to capture quality images to compete with digital still cameras, and enables a new class of hybrid camera that combines digital still image capture with advanced high-performance HD video.
