MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- SiliconCore Technology, a leading fabless analog products company, today announced that its Laser Diode Driver (LDD) family of devices have exceeded customer shipments of 200 million units to date. SiliconCore Technology started production shipments of the LDD devices in 2006 and has been supplying most major OPU manufacturers, including Sanyo, Sony, Sharp and TSST (Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology). SiliconCore Technology estimates the current world-wide market share of its DVD recorder LDD products at over 50%.
The LDD device controls the laser diode on the Optical Pick-up Unit (OPU) used on DVD recorders, and manages the accurate switching of the high currents required during the CD and DVD reading and writing operations. Most DVD recorders are used in the personal computer space; the majority of notebook and desktop personal computers are equipped with DVD recorders, allowing users to record and playback music, video or to back up and restore data files.
“We are very pleased to have achieved this major milestone in the company’s development in such a short period of time. This is an indication of our robust design and manufacturing capability, as well as uncompromising quality assurance. We are leveraging these company strengths as we diversify our product offerings in the LED driver space,” said Eric Li, President and CEO of SiliconCore Technology.
