Partner Gene Buttrill & Senior Counsel Jay Tai Join Hong Kong Office

Proskauer has expanded its global transactional and corporate practice with the additions of Partner Gene Buttrill and Senior Counsel Jay C.S. Tai in Hong Kong.
Mr. Buttrill has significant experience leading equity and debt capital markets transactions in Asia, with a focus on taking China-based companies public in the United States and Hong Kong, in addition to representing investment banks in a wide range of corporate finance transactions throughout the region.
Mr. Tai's practice focuses on private equity, mergers and acquisitions, and complex corporate and commercial transactions. He has extensive experience representing funds, investment banks and strategic investors in their activities throughout Asia, with a particular focus on China.

Mr. Buttrill, who is fluent in Mandarin, has been instrumental in public offerings by numerous China-based companies on the Nasdaq and NYSE. He also has significant transactional experience, including the largest high-yield bond offering from Asia, and has done extensive work with Chinese issuers in Hong Kong listings, high-yield debt offerings, convertible bond offerings, global equity offerings, venture capital investments, and share and asset acquisitions. Mr. Buttrill received his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was a Stone Scholar, attended the Johns Hopkins University S.A.I.S. program at Nanjing University, and received his B.A. from Dartmouth College.
Mr. Tai is also a Consultant at Chapman & Co., a Hong Kong law firm registered with The Law Society of Hong Kong that practices law in Hong Kong in association with Proskauer Rose LLP. Fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, he received his LL.B. from King's College London. He joins the firm from Ropes & Gray. He has advised clients on deals involving a broad range of industries, including real estate, manufacturing, health care, education, telecommunications and media, and jurisdictions in Asia, including China, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Malaysia.
Mr. Buttrill and Mr. Tai are the latest additions to Proskauer's Corporate Department, which in recent months has also welcomed Justin Breen (Capital Markets, Finance), Ron D. Franklin (Capital Markets, Finance), and Gregory D. Ruback (Finance).
