Aptina’s 3MP, 1/3-Inch Image Sensor Delivers High-End Solution with Sub 1-Lux Low Light Performance

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aptina, a leading provider of CMOS image sensors to the industry’s most popular surveillance camera manufacturers, announced today the launch of the AR0331 surveillance image sensor. The 3.1-megapixel sensor was created to meet the needs of the growing full HD video-centric surveillance market with the exceptional performance of the new 2.2-micron pixel sensor featuring Aptina™ A-Pix™ technology. The AR0331 targets the mainstream 1/3-inch optical format surveillance camera market with excellent image quality. The sensor provides surveillance camera manufacturers with a performance upgrade to current 3-megapixel sensor designs with a best-in-class feature set to combining full HD video with wide dynamic range (WDR) capability and built-in adaptive local tone mapping. The new sensor provides HD video of up to 1080p at 60 fps employing advanced binning techniques to enable the sensor’s sub 1-lux low light performance. The second HD image sensor in Aptina’s surveillance portfolio, like the MT9M033 (720p/60fps), the AR0331 image sensor’s low light and dynamic range capabilities enable a surveillance camera to capture HD video in the most challenging environments.

“Aptina’s newest surveillance imager provides IP surveillance camera designers with an imaging solution that produces stunning 1080p HD video at 60 frames per second, in low light or high contrast light conditions,” says David Zimpfer, General Manager of Aptina’s Automotive Industrial Business Unit. “The AR0331 is a strong addition to our portfolio of surveillance products and sets the standard for next generation IP surveillance cameras.”

The AR0331 provides camera designers with a broad list of benefits to enable exemplary imaging performance in surveillance applications. The sensor’s 1/3-inch optical format, an industry standard, makes it easy to find cost-effective megapixel lens. The new sensor delivers excellent image quality with Aptina’s best 2.2-µm pixel performance along with the means to capture 1080p/60 video in very low light condition as well as in high contrast lighting condition up to 100dB with WDR. Additionally, trigger mode and strobe light sync features allow 3D/stereo vision support and license plate reading operations support.

About Aptina A-Pix Technology

Aptina A-Pix is a series of advanced pixel technologies, featuring lightguide, deep photodiode, and 65 nm pixel design rules that cost-effectively advance pixel performance. Aptina A-Pix enhances quantum efficiency and minimizes crosstalk to capture sharp images with vibrant colors even in the low-light conditions that challenge traditional sensors. Aptina has already shipped millions of imaging products containing earlier generations of Aptina’s reliable and established FSI technology.
