OKLAHOMA CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--2009 marks the 30th anniversary of Feed The Children, an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping hungry children and families worldwide.
Through its three decades of service to the world, Feed The Children has provided help and hope to victims of war, poverty, famine and natural disaster worldwide. From the U.S. farm crisis in the 1980’s to the current economic downturn, Feed The Children has been there to deliver food, personal care items, medicine and other essentials to millions of people.
Feed The Children was the first on the scene at the 1994 Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing, working around the clock to provide rescue teams with food and support. When the World Trade Center was hit by terrorists in this decade, Feed The Children set up warehouse operations to provide for the victims and the police and fire departments that were charged with investigating the disaster.
Now, with six distribution centers in the U.S. and international operations on five continents, Feed The Children provides food for more than 800,000 meals each day worldwide. Feed The Children is also a first-responder in natural disasters, having provided almost 700 trucks of food and supplies to victims of Hurricane Katrina, and millions of dollars of aid to those affected by the Asian Tsunami.
Currently, Feed The Children is focused on communities affected by the recent economic downturn in the U.S., where 89 percent of its overall work is done. The “Americans Feeding Americans Emergency Caravan” delivers food and personal hygiene boxes to children and families across the United States in areas where there is the most need.
Feed The Children will continue its 30th anniversary observation by spotlighting the plight of the hungry all across the world and welcomes support from businesses and individuals who recognize the need to care for those less fortunate around them.
