YOKOHAMA, Japan -- (BUSINESS WIRE) --
In response to the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant and the resulting challenges the Japanese industry will face in the future, TUV Rheinland Japan has launched new radiation protection measurement services to support the industry and public.
These services are ranging from on-site and laboratory measurements of dose rates and contamination of radioactive materials to complex technical support in developing concepts for the evaluation and management of radioactivity in all stages of manufacturing processes. The objective is to evaluate and certify the manufacturer's radiation measurement activities to ensure the consistency and validity of their measurements. The "Radiation Protection Measurements Monitored by TUV Rheinland" certificate provides evidence that the manufacturer has taken necessary steps to monitor the radiation level of its facility and products according to the applicable requirements. The target number of issued certificates for this year is 100.
"It is a long-term and complex issue. How to ensure safety of a food chain? How to convince partners in the supply chain that your products are not contaminated? How to make consumers around the world believe that products from Japan are as safe as alternatives from other regions? Not only providing verifiable measurements but also stability of the whole system is necessary to answer these questions," - said Dr.J-U.Schmollack, Senior Manager of Radiation Protection and Nuclear Technology at TUV Rheinland Industrie Service GmbH.
The approval process of a manufacturer's radiation protection and measurement system includes on-site screening, measurements of the dose rate and surface contamination, and a final report. TUV Rheinland also reviews inspection procedures and trains personnel.
TUV Rheinland has been active in the field of nuclear engineering for decades. Our experts have obtained indispensable experience in numerous evaluation projects, including those followed by the Chernobyl accident.
TUV Rheinland operates fully equipped laboratories, uses highly accurate equipment and measures radiation levels according to the international safety standards.
